Image Processing today has become an integral part of automation of industrial
processes and streams like automobile manufacturing, pharmaceuticals
and medicine, medical imaging like CT scans, biology (scanning electron
microscopy) forensic study, security
applications and remote sensing, etc. It is also an active area of research
with multi disciplinary applications.
All image-processing solutions comprise:
- Image acquisition
- Storage
- Processing
- Analysis
- User interface
- Display capabilities
Benchmark Image Processing Laboratories are integrated labs combining state of
the art equipment ensuring that users get hands on experience in all aspects
of
image
processing systems.
Benchmark's image processing solutions are being used extensively in institutes
like IIT-Madras, IIT–Delhi, IIT–Kharagpur, the Machine Vision
Department at ISI,
Calcutta, Anna University, etc. These laboratories allow the student
to:
- Understand the basics of image acquisition
- Work with different techniques for image processing (image to image transformations)
- Work with different techniques for image analysis requiring extraction
of information from images
- Develop their own image processing programs and algorithms
- Develop customized prototype image processing applications for computer/machine
vision systems
Benchmark provides integrated image analysis and processing solutions
comprising:
- Lighting
- CCD cameras
- Relevant frame grabbers – as per the requirements of the faculty
- Image processing/analysis software and libraries
- Or an integrated, stand-alone system
The lab can also be customized as per the requirements of the faculty
or for a specific application.
Benchmark's image processing laboratories are built
around NERLITE
lighting systems, PULNiX
cameras and MATROX
Imaging hardware and software.
Benchmark Electronics is the exclusive reseller for the NERLITE® range of
machine vision lighting products in India. Nerlite ™ is recognised
as the “standard” for
machine vision illumination. NERLITE®
lighting products are designed
to control "light
delivery" to the CCD array (camera). There are many lighting techniques
to choose from including: ring lights, dark-field illuminators,
back lights, co-axial, diffused on-axis, continuous diffuse illumination,
domes, area
arrays and spot illuminators.
NER is the leading provider of lighting and imaging systems designed specifically
for machine vision. These products allow machine vision and auto-ID systems
to perform reliably in simple or challenging imaging applications.
PULNiX specializes in miniaturized solid state cameras and accessories for
the industrial, automation, and scientific imaging markets. In
the past decade, thousands of its cameras have been used in applications
as diverse as automated
inspection, medical, robotics, sorting, gauging, remote piloted
vehicles, spaceflight, undersea exploration, airborne observation,
the motion picture
industry, academic research, defense systems, computer graphics,
traffic control, and anti-terrorist operations.
Matrox Imaging Technology is used by industry leaders in factory automation, process
control, electronic and
pharmaceutical packaging, semiconductor inspection, robotics,
radiology, microscopy, and video surveillance.
The labs support basic and advance courses in image processing. These have
also been used for project work by undergraduate and graduate students.
Corporate R&D departments have been using our equipment to build
commercial applications with a high degree of success. Our laboratory
configurations train users on different image
processing techniques such as:
- Image acquisition, display and archiving
- Image manipulation in 1, 8, 16 and 32-bit integer, as well as 32-bit floating point formats
- Working with and understanding an extensive set of imaging primitives including
point-to-point, statistical, filtering, morphological, geometric transformations
and segmentation
- Image Processing in spatial (at sub pixel level) or frequency domain
- Image enhancement and restoration
- Feature detection – point, edge, corner, line segment etc.
- Image compression and decompression
- OCR and bar/matrix code recognition
- Pattern matching labs
- Calibrate images - image calibration is provided to correct visual
distortions like lens aberrations, aspect ratios, rotation and perspective
views
- Design prototype image processing applications with VBA and 'C' compatible
scripting
The faculty can design their own experiments and exercises to give requisite
exposure to students on individual techniques and integrated applications.
The exercises can be designed in sequential image analysis steps resulting
in image interpretation and hands on experience on machine vision tasks.
