Anna University, Chennai runs a short term course on Communication Practice. Benchmark Electronics is one of the assisting companies
The aim of engineering colleges is one of training students to become practical engineers. Consequently, the primary objective of this course was to provide hands-on experience to trainers/teachers with some of the latest equipment and accessories, in the following areas:
The reason for the course arose from the fact that Anna University, Chennai is in the process of revising its curriculum and syllabus for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses to be implemented during 2003-2004. As a result, with laboratory experiments also being updated/revised, many engineering colleges are in the process of setting up/updating their laboratories. As such, it was felt that this was the right time to discuss, with faculty, laboratory experiments and supporting laboratory facilities with the intention of providing directions towards the development of relevant communication laboratories. Moreover, suggestions were invited from participants to promote the standard and content of the aforesaid laboratories.

Launch of OFS Series A - a new product in the OFS Series of fibre optic laboratory systems
Benchmark has designed a new OFS - Optical Fibre Laboratory System - configuration. Launched in April this year, the new laboratory configuration adds on to the OFS Series II & III systems. The equipment trains students in the workings of optic fibres, LEDs, photo diodes, laser diodes, APDs and also has the building blocks to create a simple OTDR in the laboratory.
The OFS Series A system has met with an encouraging response from institutes with orders already being placed by institutes such as the Madras Institute of Technology and Jerusalem College of Engineering, Veltech.
The lab configuration has been designed to ensure students understand the working concepts of each component used in fibre optic communication systems. These labs in combination with OFS Series II and III allow students to get trained on the basics of fibre optic components and fibre optic systems as well as design their own prototype applications and do project work.
The complete laboratory is priced at Rs. 6,45,000/- including building blocks for educational OTDR.
The new laboratory covers the fibre optic laboratory syllabus as per Anna University.
Benchmark attends Education India exhibition in New Delhi and Mumbai
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the faculty members who visited our stall and went through the equipment demonstrations at the Education India – 2003 exhibition in Mumbai and Delhi. We are extremely grateful to everyone for taking time off from their busy schedules.
The Exhibition gave us a unique opportunity to interact with faculty and to introduce the complete range of Benchmark equipment. We met a lot of esteemed & experienced faculty members over a complete week at two locations. We have received a lot of suggestions and new ideas from the discussions had at the exhibition.
PCI version of LAN-T is available
The LAN-T kit was upgraded during the year with migration to PCI bus based version. The PCI compatible LAN-T laboratories have been installed at IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Kharagpur, NIT - Calicut, IP University, Delhi etc. Institutes with the older ISA based kits have an option to upgrade to PCI based kits at a nominal cost which partly covers the cost of replacing the ISA NIU cards with PCI NIU cards. New experiment software has also been released with additional experiments and ease of usage.
